For the past 21 years SAFARI dried fruit and nuts has sponsored, Boland Athletics to host one of the major events in the Boland – the SAFARI half Marathon in Wellington, that draws over 8000 entries nationally.

Apart from the 21, 5 km run it also includes a 10 km and 5 km walk that the whole family can take part in. Supported by many community organisations, schools and the municipality, it became a popular outing for the 1 May. The beautiful wine lands is the perfect back drop to spend a family day at the marathon. Many charity organisations operate stalls to promote their activities. Every year a special charity is nominated to benefit from the proceeds. During 2008 it was the Council for the Deaf.
